Historic Route 66

The morning in Laughlin, NV brought an amazing sunrise over the Colorado River looking towards Arizona. The first part of our journey this morning would take us through a portion of the Historic Route 66.

Since we were in the area, I really wanted to travel as much as Highway 66 as possible. It is part of so much history.

I also picked out a few of the attractions to stop at in the section of Hwy 66 we were going to ride. The Kingsman Visitor Center is in the same building as the Route 66 Museum. There are many signs and attractions in the area revolving around Route 66.

And of course I had to purchase a small Route 66 sticker to put on Rebel.

Hairpins and Twisties

On the way to Camp Verde, Arizona, Francis suggested we take a short detour on Highway 89A to Jerome, Arizona. He said it is an amazing road for motorcycles…he wasn’t kidding!!

I lost track on the count of the number of hairpins on Highway 89A. The views are stunning and the road is amazing to ride on a motorbike. A must do if you are in the area.

The town of Jerome, Arizona, is built into the side of a mountain and has the feel of a European town. There are many different levels to explore. And the streets wind back and forth making their way down through the town. The top levels of the town have breathtaking views.

I was quite impressed that they have a small parking lot specifically for motorcycles. And thank goodness it was level hahaha.

After a bit of exploring in Jerome, we made our way to Camp Verde for the night. Friends from Nanaimo, Hanan and Shelagh, popped by for a visit after their arrival and picking up their rented Indian bike.

Tomorrow, one step closer to Mexico…
