The Big Day-Crossing The Border

We were all up and packed up early in anticipation of the day. We made it to cross the border into Mexico, even after facing a few challenges along the way.

An interesting side note of trivial info about Sierra Vista. They have the biggest grasshoppers I have ever seen. When these buggers hop and fly, they almost knock you over hahaha.

Breakfast in Bisbee, Arizona

On some of his previous adventures, Francis had visited and stayed in Bisbee, Arizona a number of times. He wanted to show us this unique and quaint little town with a definite western feel. It was a copper, gold, and silver mining town until the 1970’s.

We grabbed breakfast at The Bisbee Grand Hotel, and then walked through a bit of the downtown exploring the businesses and sites.

Very interesting town! Recommend visiting it is you are traveling in the area. I will be adding it to my list as an overnight stop on another adventure.

Agua Prieta Border Crossing

In the months leading to this adventure, I was back and forth on whether to go or not. Could I do it? How could I not do it though? Years down the road, I did NOT want to regret not trying at least.

I have to admit that I was incredibly nervous, but extremely excited to be riding my Rebel into Mexico. This has been a Bucket List item for a few years now…and here I was on my way. A very surreal feeling.

The plan was to cross the border at the Agua Prieta border crossing. There was no line-up and we drove straight through. One stop at the office to get our FMM’s and TIP lined up and paid for. Since there was three of us to process, it took close to an hour.

Right beside the parking lot was “The Wall”, separating the United States and Mexico. You can see right through the staggered slats. It gives a bit of an eerie and intimidating feeling.

Traffic in Mexico

This being my first attempt at driving, or riding, was quite the sensory overload at first. Trying to follow the proper etiquette and rules of the road, while not totally understanding the Mexican traffic signs was a bit of a challenge. I stayed close to Francis and followed my GPS. Within seconds of starting out, we were lane splitting hahaha.

We headed for Neuvo Casas Grandes for our first night in Mexico. The highway was jam packed with semi’s. The road surface incredibly rough. Heading into the mountains, the road narrowed to rid of any type of shoulder. Semi’s were still passing each other on the narrow two-lane mountain road at full speeds…yikes!! It was quite the road to experience!!

Tomorrow our adventure continues as we ride to the city of Chihuahua…
