Day 3 – On the Road Again…
Time to get moving, with today being a travel day, to our next destination, Winthrop. We packed up the campsite, loaded the bikes, fueled up, and headed out mid morning. Before the scorching heat set in.
We started out on highway 2 east. Then connected to highway 97 heading north east. Hwy 97 followed alongside portions of the Columbia River. This morning the Columbia was like a sheet of glass. At times you could not distinguish where the shoreline met the water. The reflection in the water was perfect.
Lake Chelan
Since I had heard so much about it, I decided to detour into Lake Chelan to check it out. What a beautiful area! Reminded me of the Okanagan area and Lake Okanagan in British Columbia.
We happened upon a Mexican truck/trailer on hwy 97 heading out of Lake Chelan. It was nearing lunch time, we both love Mexican food, so we looped around the block to get back to the trailer.
Laguna Tacos was very welcoming and clean with tables to relax at. The senorita working was very friendly and patient with Cheryl and I trying to place our orders in Spanish. I ordered two beef, or carne de res, tacos. They were authentic to Mexico…and delicious!! Definitely a place to try if you are in the area.
Hello Winthrop
The temperatures continued to climb as we continued on our adventure to Winthrop. At one point it was 39 degrees. There was a bit of relief when we rode through the higher altitudes and forests of the Okanogan National Forest.
Riding back down to the desert like areas was like riding right back into an oven. Incredibly hot!! I was excited as we rode into the outskirts of Winthrop. It is a special place to visit for me, including the Pine Near RV Park where we would be staying for the next two nights.
We checked in at the office and were directed to our tent sites I had reserved. When I asked about putting two tents on one site, I was told both of us would have to pay the full tent site amount. So, if we are paying the same amount, I decided to reserve two tent sites. Paying the full amount, might as well have a full site.
After unloading the bikes and setting up our tent sites, we decided to walk the two blocks to the downtown area. It was early enough to do some exploring and we needed snacks and supplies…like water!
