Days 17, 18 & 19
Got everything packed up and headed out around 8:00a.m. for our next destination, Cromberg, California. Were we ever in for an exciting surprise. Highway 120, heading west out of Groveland, CA turned out to be a must do motorcycle road. This tantalizing stretch is full of twisties, curves, corners, and steep grades. What a way to get woken up first thing in the morning!! We made our way to Angels Camp, CA, then Ebbetts Pass and the Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest……Wow!! Extremely narrow road, no guardrails, tightest hairpin curves ever. Sooo intimidating but soooo exhiliarating!!! With such a crazy narrow road, it was not possible to safely pull off to take pictures. We passed through Lake Tahoe and made it to our next destination, a quaint little rv park just outside of Cromberg. And as a unique treat, we rented the teepee to stay in. This teepee was not sealed to the elements, or the bugs. So when dusk was approaching all the mosquitos came out. Decided that since the teepee was huge, we would set up our little tent inside the teepee and sleep in the tent so the mosquitos wouldn’t get us…..worked out quite well.
Day 18 started out as an oops as we slept in a bit….oh well, best to get a good rest. Today included a drive through Lassan Volcanic National Park. We were there last summer but decided to ride through it again to see the volcanic rock. And it was a more direct route. Well much to our surprise, some of the Park still had 10 – 15 feet of snow along the roadways.
Day 19 started out more on schedule. We wanted to check out Crater Lake on the way to our destination for the night, Culver, Oregon. A couple years ago when we rode through Crater Lake, there were so many fires in the immediate area. Very beautiful area and the lake itself is amazing.
Made it to our campsite in the Culver area mid afternoon, stopping for supplies on the way and then treating ourselves to a steak dinner all cooked on the campfire. We have become quite creative in cooking healthy, delicious meals on our motorcycle trips with limited resources and supplies.
