Days 1-3 – A “New” Type of Adventure…..
We planned this adventure with one “small” change. For the past six years together, James and I rode our motorbikes for any summer adventures/trips……….well this time we thought we would try “car camping” and see what we thought of it….hahaha. Packing for the trip was interesting because we had so much more room to bring things…..like a campstove and a cooler to store food. Even though our website/blog is focused on motorcycling, I decided to post this trip because the country is beautiful and it may give others the incentive to travel and explore as well.
Since it was a long weekend, and we weren’t on our bikes, we made a reservation for our BC Ferry ride to the mainland……just in case it was crazy busy. And after so many trips on the Ferries on our bikes, being in the car felt…..well…..awkward? We hadn’t been on the Sea to Sky Highway in a few years, and it was just a beautiful as ever. Traffic wasn’t too heavy yet as we took the first Ferry over. We had barely got going and James and I both already admitted missing being on our bikes. But we agreed to give the car trip a shot. Our first night was spent at a nice little campsite 10 minutes out of Clinton, BC, Willow Springs Resort. Right on the main highway, grassy tent sites, and clean facilities.
Day 2 saw us off to Vanderhoof, BC. Neither of us had ever been there previously. We thought about taking in Barkerville, as I had not been there since I was a youngster. Found out planning a full day, or two, is recommended for visiting Barkerville, so we will include that stop on another one of our trips. We made it to our next campsite, Tachick Lake Resort, after a little out of the way detour……thanks to Google Maps hahaha. Roads off the main highway to the Resort were quite rough and full of pot holes as they had had a lot of rain. The Resort was nice, free firewood, clean facilities and our campsite was along the lake.
The next morning we headed off on Highway 16 West to our next destination Hazleton, BC. Big thing we noticed is that this definitely is not a motorcycle route…..meaning no twisties, hairpins, or curves. We tented at the Ksan Campground for the night. It was a lovely, large campground with very friendly staff.
