Day 11 to Home

After a great rest and breakfast in Hinton, we were on our way to Revelstoke, British Columbia. At Jasper we headed south on Highway 93, Columbia Icefields Parkway. There was so much traffic to deal with. And then there were the tourists trying to take pictures of a bear…….out of their vehicles, within 15 feet of the bear. No respect for the wildlife or the warning signs along the highway. The mountains were so rugged and majestic on this stretch of highway as they towered over reaching to the sky. We tried to stop at Lake Louise before heading west for Revelstoke. It was so incredibly busy traffic controllers were just rerouting everyone right out again. Disappointed, we headed for Revelstoke.

We found tent sites available at the Lamplighter Campground right in Revelstoke. Other than the tent sites are very small and squished side by side, it is a nice campground. Mother Nature gave us some excitement with two thunderstorms, one in the afternoon and one in the middle of the night. Rather interesting spending the night in a tent with the lightning lighting everything up. The next morning, on the advice of the campground owner, we went for a drive through Mount Revelstoke National Park and up to the Summit. The trek up was full of hairpins and switchbacks, climbing so quickly……would have been amazing, and tiring, on a motorbike. The views were spectacular overlooking Revelstoke. Alpine flowers were in full bloom giving splashes of yellow, red, and purple. At the top there are many trails to hike, being bear aware is a must. Another thunderstorm rolled in so we made our way back down.
