Expect the Unexpected
We left John Day, Oregon headed for Mountain Home, Idaho. Our GPS’s were still set to avoid major highways. We wove our way through farmland where most of the crops had been harvested, or were in the process of being harvested.
Mountain Home, ID
We got settled in at our motel and tucked the bikes in for the night. Exploring the downtown core, we also needed to find a spot for dinner. Making our way through Carl Miller Park, we came across a F-111A Aardvark strike bomber on display.
Not many restaurants were open but we came across Kurley’s Sports Bar & Grill during our walk. Turned out to be a great find. We all ordered salads which were delicious and portions generous. Highly recommend it if you are in the area.
The Unexpected
The morning started out with the days end destination being West Wendover, Nevada. Riding on Hwy 30 we pulled into Glenns Ferry, Oregon for a rest break, stopping in front of the Equine Dentistry Museum. We geared up, ready to go…but not quite. Francis’s Husqvarna would not start.
Francis started taking his bike apart searching for the issue. James and Francis troubleshot everything from fuses, to the fuel pump, to the kickstand. The local NAPA owner drove by and helped out by bringing battery testers and voltage meters. Discovered that the battery was not holding a charge. But why not?
In the end a tow truck had to be called from Twin Falls. Hmmm…wonder why they didn’t send a bigger tow truck? Hahaha…
The tow truck driver dropped the bike off at Action Cycles ‘N Sleds, and we booked in at My Place Hotel for the night.
Diagnosis and the Search
The next morning the diagnosis was that the Stator had gone on Francis’s Husqvarna. The earliest the dealer could get one was mid November. Time to do some searching and make some phone calls.
After Googling, and making many phone calls, there was not one Stator to be found. In a last ditch effort, Francis made a call back home to Courtenay Motorsports. To everyone’s surprise, and relief, Jason at Courtenay Motorsports said his computer system showed one left in Arizona.
Within the hour it was confirmed that AEO Powersports had one in stock. The last Stator in North America was being prepared to ship overnight to Twin Falls.
We would need to spend a few days in Twin Falls while waiting for the Stator to arrive. Much better than the other alternative of mid to late November. Francis found an Air B’nB for us to move to as the motel was much more expensive.
This gave us time to explore the Twin Falls area while we patiently waited…
