Vegas Baby
We got an early surprise when the service department at Action Cycles ‘N Sleds called to let Francis know the repair to his Husqvarna was complete. We were off to our next destination…Ely, Nevada.
The Nevada landscape is everchanging and simply amazing. In the far, far distance, you are surrounded by mountains as you drive through the flat desert areas. After being used to the rain forests of Vancouver Island, this is quite the change…in a good way.
The daytime temperatures aren’t rising too high as it is October. And overnight has dipped into the minuses.
Ely, Nevada
We booked in at the Bristlecone Motel in Ely, Nevada for our next overnight stop. Highly recommend it for the location, friendly staff, cleanliness, and light breakfast. Walking distance to restaurants and downtown.
The temperatures in Ely were minus three when we went for breakfast. Decided to wait for the sun to come up over the mountain to warm things up a bit before we rode off into the desert.
Since James, nor I, had been to Las Vegas before, Francis planned a detour for us to ride The Strip through Vegas.
It was quite the nostalgic experience for me riding our motorcycles through The Strip in Vegas. Seeing all of the names of famous casinos and attractions as we rode by was very surreal…to actually be there. Big names like Circus, Circus, MGM, and Elvis’s Little White Chapel.
The Trump Tower really does have gold walls!! Definitely need to plan a trip directly to Vegas to explore…and maybe gamble just a little bit.
After the Las Vegas experience, we continued on to Laughlin, Nevada for our next overnight destination.
The closer we got to Laughlin, the terrain changed from flat desert to small, continuous mountains. And the road changed from straight for miles, to curves and twisties.
Laughlin, NV appeared to be a “mini Vegas”. We booked in at the Edgewater Casino and Resort which is right on the Columbia River. We could see Arizona, across the Columbia River, from our rooms. Edgewater is a huge resort, but one we recommend. Rooms are clean and comfy. Staff are friendly and helpful. And many attractions and restaurants are within walking distance.
Laughlin, Nevada definitely feels like a “Mini Vegas”…
