Day 10 – Grand Canyon South Rim
Up early, eager to arrive at today’s destination…..Grand Canyon South Rim. We headed south on highway 191 and planned to check out Monument Valley on the way…..sadly disappointed as they do not allow motorcycles driving through the Valley. Explanation was, they do not want the bikes to disturb the fragile red soils of the valley. We were offered the option to pay the $10.00 each admission fee and go to the Visitor Centre. We respected the protection of the red soils, turned our bikes around and enjoyed what we could see from the road. Even from the distance they were majestic, rising vertically out of the red soils.
Came across many more spectacular formations on the way to the Grand Canyon that we couldn’t resist stopping to explore….even though the temperatures were climbing and it was getting toasty warm in all of our gear.
As we got closer and closer, my excitement continually rose….I couldn’t believe I was actually going to see the Grand Canyon for the first time. Riding along I could see glimpses of what I was sure was the Grand Canyon. The first major viewpoint we came to was the Desert Viewpoint and of course we zipped in. The famous Watch Tower is located at this viewpoint. Saw so many pictures of it and now it stood reaching to the sky right in front of us……wow!!!
