Day 13-Alamo, NV
When I was planning our trip and the destinations we would camp at, I researched the areas including using Google Street View. This area definitely looked very “deserty” and hot…..decided that Alamo would be a good destination to book an air conditioned room at. Set off this morning looking forward to that and a hopefully soft bed after tenting for two weeks so far. The morning was beautiful and sunny and we were on our way out of Bryce Canyon. Then the landscape quickly became very flat, the road very straight……and then there was the winds……
The sidewinds were incredibly strong. Never experienced any that strong before. I was certain I was going to be knee down on Rebel, just leaning to try to keep the bike in my lane and on the road hahaha. Once we hit highway 56/319, we were in the vast openness of Dry Lake. We stopped to take a few pictures and got to watch two fighter jets doing low fly overs……very loud, intimidating, and cool.
The Alamo Inn turned out to be a great place to book a room. Could use updating, but the staff are friendly, bed was comfy and, most importantly, it had A/C……….it was sooooo hot!! Another must stop in Alamo is the Great Basin Foods on highway 93, right in Alamo. They have everything you need for supplies, delicious fried chicken and the best breakfast burritos ever.
