Day 6 – Dease Lake
Woke up to clouds and cooler temps. Just outside of Stewart it started to rain. Drove back to Meziadin Junction to head north on highway 37 and on to Dease Lake. During one of our rest stops, we saw a helicopter carrying a bucket come down to a lake to scoop water. Finally saw a black bear, and her cub, in a distant meadow rambling along, then another munching grass in the ditch. Highway 37 is, of course, very remote, good condition, and not much for traffic.
We were advised that there was not much for supplies north of Dease Lake. Since our campsite was 10 kms north of the town, we stopped at a great store to stock up. It had a grocery store, gas, and liquor store all in one and the prices were reasonable. The campsite we stayed at was Waters Edge RV Resort right on the lake. It is owned by a wonderful elderly gentleman and his wife who have owned it since the 1960’s. There are no showers or flush toilets at this campground, but it is very clean. Our campsite was very cute, cozy, and right on the lake. The lake has trout in it and is beautiful, quiet, and huge.
