Jalpan de Serra

The original plan leaving Delores Hildago was to set Xilitla as our destination at days end. Once we got going though, Francis shortened up the day making Jalpan de Serra the destination for the night instead. Partly due to distance, and partly due to us trying to explore as many Pueblo Magico’s in our adventure as possible.

Two Hours of Twisties

Leaving Delores Hildago, we headed out on Highway 110, making our way to connect to Highway 120. As a motorcycle rider, what a pleasant surprise Highway 120 would be.

The highway started out with gentle curves and twisties as we climbed up into the mountains. They just kept going and going. The views were absolutely spectacular!! The one and only disappointing thing is that there is no shoulder and very few pullouts to safely stop to take pictures and take in the breathtaking beauty. By the time we got to Jalpan, it was almost two hours of excitement riding Highway 120…a definite must ride if you are in the area!!

At one point I looked down at my Garmin GPS. The route on the screen looked like someone took a pen and scribbled all over the screen. This pic from Google Maps is of that same section of Highway 120 .

Exploring Jalpan

We booked in at the Hotel Los Angeles, which had spacious rooms and a beautiful courtyard and pool. At the opposite end of the pool was La Cigarra Music Bar which offered beverages, snacks, and music in the evening. A very relaxing, pleasant place to stay.

We had time to do a bit of exploring after settling in and before dark. The next morning we headed back to the square and to check out the authentic Street Market. So many vendors with fruits, veggies, and delicious food cooked on the spot.

A traditional meat from the Jalpan area is Cecina. The meat is dried, then marinated in orange or lemon. And then used in dishes for cooking.

Next destination…Xilitla
