Rincon de Guayabitos

There is an old saying about it being good to learn something new everyday. Leaving Aijijc, we learned a few new points about traveling in another country and taking money out of your bank account from back home. It is best to go to a bank branch with humans as opposed to random ATM’s. But these are far and few between in Mexico. ATM’s are scattered pretty much everywhere…but they tend to “eat” bank cards or have skimmers on them.

There are a few points of advice I would like to share about ATM’s that was shared with us by other traveling Canadians. ATM’s within an OXXO store are “typically” the safest. At the end of the transaction select Exit, or Finished, never continue. A debit card should have symbols on the back showing which machines to use it at. Be certain the ATM you select has one of those symbols as well.

On Our Way

The issue at the Scotiabank ATM delayed us enough that we decided to stick to The Toll roads to make up time getting to Rincon de Guayabitos. The road took us right through the middle of Guadalajara. Traffic was flowing at a steady pace even though it was a huge city. We took a quick rest stop in Tequila, which was extremely busy since it was the weekend. Will be planning another visit to Tequila on a quieter day.

After Tequila, the road was twisty as we made our way to the Pacific side of the mountains. At one point we rounded a mountain and I could smell the Pacific air…reminded me of home.

We had a few issues finding the hotel we booked. Our navigation systems were conflicting, and sent us to the wrong location originally. We ended up at another hotel owned by the same owner. He led us to the correct place, and we settled in.

We met up with our friends Ian and Amanda for dinner at El Taquero Del Ano. Delicious Mexican cuisine!!

Exploring Guayabitos

The day started with an early morning walk on the beach. It re-energizing to walk barefoot in the sand and ocean. I had missed breathing in those negative ions off of the ocean water.

The fish market was set up on the beach for the morning catch to be sold. It was interesting to see the variety of seafood available…literally right out of the ocean.

The bikes were in need of oil changes, so off to the Suzuki store, and then to Ian and Amanda’s for a spot to pamper our bikes. Once the bikes were all looked after, Ian and Amanda suggested Wanda’s Burgers & Ribs for dinner. Delicious and highly recommend trying it!

Next up…a very short ride and move to a new location…
